A to Z of Shantytown

Ruma 4 headed to Shantytown to learn about Kehu, the Maori guide who helped early European explorers travel to West Coast.
We created this A to Z to explain what we did.

A to Z of Shantytown

Ate food from our lunch boxes
Built structures for shelter in the bush
Climbed to hill to search for building stuff
Drank refreshing water
Explored the fold fashioned shops
Found a blue mushroom
Grabbed sticks and leaves
Held soft moss
Investigated the jail house
Jumped on the bridge
Kehu was a superhero of the bush
Looked at the interesting rocks and gems
Mucked about on the muddy track
Noticed the old fashioned barber’s chair
Opened the door
Plaited flax to make ropes
Quickly followed the teacher’s instructions
Ripped the flax ready to plait
Skipped around the shops
Talked with our friends
Unzipped our bags
Ventured into the forest
Walking in stilts
eXplored Shantytown
Yelled at each other

Zoomed in the van with Bronie

Shared Pukapuka

We read the book "When the Wind Changed" which was written by Ruth Park.
It tells of a boy called Joshua who loves to pull face....BUT one day the wind changed and his face was frozen!

Afterwards we drew and created terrifying faces.
